Mason making excellent progress

Ryan Mason, 25, is making “excellent progress” having fractured his skull in a horrifying collision whilst playing for Hull City in the Premier League.

Mason, Hull’s record signing, had been visited in hospital by Chelsea defender Gary Cahill (who was involved in the sickening clash of heads) together with their assistant manager Steve Holland.

The Chelsea pair along with Hull City captain Michael Dawson and other medical staff from Hull, spent time with Mason’s family and checked on the well-being of the Tigers midfielder at the weekend.

Hull had issued an update saying that Mason had been “speaking of the incident and will continue to be monitored at the hospital.” The statement added that Hull “will remain in close contact with Ryan, his family and the staff at St Mary's.”

Ryan’s former team-mate Jake Livermore, who has just signed for West Brom from Hull and had also played alongside Mason at Tottenham too, said he “feared the worst” upon hearing the news of the head injury.

Livermore continued: "I only spoke to him a couple of days ago and he wished me well at West Brom.

"You fear the worst when something like that happens.

"I know his family very well. Everyone wishes him all the best, fingers crossed he'll be fine.

"He's a strong character anyway. I've played with him for a long time growing up and I've no doubts he'll be fine."

Football fans and people far and wide are all wishing Mason a full recovery.

The nature of the injury is such that puts life in to greater perspective. The most important thing for Mason at this time is to recuperate and get all the treatment required. Getting back on a football pitch is very much secondary at the moment, as much as we would all love to see that happen.

Many players and football pundits have expressed their well-wishes for Mason.
