Les Reed:
“The experience Sam gained last season at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship was invaluable, and it was clear to see the further improvement that he made in his game during that time. Not only did he score 12 goals but his general play was impressive and highlighted his capability.
“We believe he has many exciting years ahead of him, and that this is the ideal place for him to realise the great deal of potential that he still possesses.
“We are all looking forward to seeing Sam back here for pre-season and helping him take the next strides in his game at Southampton.”
“I am absolutely delighted to sign this new contract. Especially to get it all done and dusted before the start of the season because I can really get my head down and focus now on the year ahead.
“It shows the belief that the club have in me and I need to prove that now, which is what I am hoping to do in pre-season.”
Speaking of his time on loan at Blackburn last season, Gallagher said: “It was definitely a big season for me.
“I knew that before I went into it. I was delighted to go to such a big club and somewhere that had such a good training ground and facilities.
“I scored a few goals early on which really helped me out and gave me the confidence to settle down – the fans really helped me as well.
“I definitely thank Blackburn a lot for last season. It has helped me grow both as a person and a player. It’s a club that I have massive respect for.”
