A goal from Steven Davis on his 200th appearance for Southampton was enough to earn three points at Selhurst Park.

Davis netted early in the game after just six minutes to ensure Roy Hodgson's first game in charge ended in misery to make it five straight Premier League defeats for Crystal Palace.

It was Saints' first away win of the season.

Defender Virgil van Dijk returned to action for Mauricio Pellegrino's side coming on as a late substitute.

Gallagher signs new deal

Sam Gallagher has signed a new four-year deal with Southampton. Les Reed:  “The experience Sam gained last season at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship was invaluable, and it was clear to see the further improvement that he made in his game during that time.
