Southampton FC Player Awards 2017

Oriol Romeu was the big winner at the Southampton FC Player Awards 2017 as the midfielder won the accolades for both the Players' Player and Fans' Player of the Year.

Maya Yoshida was the Terry Paine's President's Choice Award winner and Sofiane Boufal scooped the prize for Goal of the Season.

The Academy Scholar of the Season was Jake Vokins, while the Girls' Regional Talent Club Player of the Season was won by Phoebe Williams.

“It has been an amazing season, I have enjoyed it a lot.

“I’ve felt everyone’s support and need to thank my teammates for valuing the work I have done since I came here. I couldn’t be any happier.

“Also the fans as well because their support gives you another strength to carry on and fight for every single ball. I need to say thank you to the fans because without them sometimes it would be much harder.

“Playing at Wembley and St Mary’s has been amazing this season.

“It was an unreal atmosphere at Wembley and we will never forget that day. We couldn’t get the title but we took many things from that day – it was amazing.

“Also Longy’s goal at Anfield. That was one my happiest moments as a footballer – seeing him put the ball in the back of the net and then all the fans and players celebrating getting to Wembley. It was amazing.”

Double award for Romeu at Player Awards

Oriol Romeu was the man of the moment at Southampton Football Club's Player Awards on Thursday evening. The Spanish midfielder picked up both the Fans' Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season following an excellent Premier League campaign.
