A goal from Steven Davis on his 200th appearance for Southampton was enough to earn three points at Selhurst Park. Davis netted early in the game after just six minutes to ensure Roy Hodgson's first game in charge ended in misery to make it five straight Premier League defeats for Crystal Palace. It was Saints' first away win of the season. Defender Virgil van Dijk returned to action for Mauricio Pellegrino's side coming on as a late substitute.
