Southampton have completed the signing of Mohamed Elyounoussi from FC Basel. The 23-year-old forward Norway international has signed a five-year deal with Saints. Southampton manager Mark Hughes said: “Mohamed is clearly another very exciting addition to our attacking options. “He has got an outstanding record of goals and assists in two different countries, and we have been extremely impressed by the intelligence he has shown in his play from a tactical point of view. “He’s still at a young age as well, so we’re confident he can continue to improve and fulfil even more of his potential with us, and, following on from the arrival of Stuart Armstrong this week, we feel we have made real progress in adding a new dimension to our attack ahead of the season.” Mohamed Elyounoussi said: “I’m really happy to be here and I am really excited to get started. “The club has been following me for a long time, watching many games, so I feel really confident to come here and to get even b

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has signed a new four-year contract after an impressive 2017/2018 season that saw the 28-year-old win the Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Season awards. McCarthy said: “I’m massively pleased. I had one year left on my current deal and obviously I’m over the moon to sign a new four-year deal. “I think the club is going in the right direction. We had a frustrating season last season but that’s in the past now and with the way we finished the season, we can take that into this one and hopefully finish a lot higher up the table. “I had a frustrating start with my injury but to come into the team and see out the rest of the season and help the team was massive for me. “You have to wait your time and then when I got my chance, I knew I had to perform week in, week out. “I train hard every day so I knew I wasn’t being put in when I wasn’t ready. I look forward to more game time next season.” Saints boss Mark Hughes commented: “Alex played a

Southampton have completed the signing of 26-year-old midfielder Stuart Armstrong from Celtic on a four-year deal. Upon signing the Scotland international, Saints boss Mark Hughes said: “Stuart is a player who we have admired for some time, and I am delighted we have been able to bring him here, especially given the competition we faced to sign him. “We have strong players in the squad and it is important we build on that by adding different qualities. It is important we add a greater goal threat to the team as a whole, and to our midfield specifically, and Stuart’s record of scoring and creating makes him an extremely exciting addition in that area. “He brings with him extensive experience of European football and has developed his game impressively over the past few seasons at a major club in Celtic, where there is a demand not only to perform but also to win. Stuart has done both during his time there. “Our research tells us he is an excellent young man, intelligent,
